The HDD crashed on my X510 DataVault.
I installed a new HDD in slot 1 - exactly the same as the previous HDD (a Seagate Desktop HDD).
I then followed the server recovery process.
But during the time when the "Starting Server in Recovery Mode" window was open the process stopped and a message appeared "Step 3 of 4 failed."
I pressed the Help button and a message appeared "There was an unidentified error".

I repeated the recovery process and double-checked that every step was completed correctly. Same result.

Is there a way to fix this problem or is this X510 now junk?

With thanks,
Greg

It is now fixed.

I was attempting server recovery on a 64 machine.
Swapped the X510 to an 86 machine and process completed.

Good Catch, I keep an old XP laptop around just for loading servers.
Glad to hear you got it going.
Good Luck

P.S Have you installed the FRee SMart addin to keep an eye on your drives. I believe it is a must have.
