Issue is this, I says the atypical (screenshot included) I use the paper clip between color changes and never seem to get it to work, one today after maybe 20 or attempts it started to bling all RED which is how I got it to work before. Other issue I have tried 10 different SAT 3 1.0 TB - 500GB (which I checked with my test machine they are all working) drives and none of them turn the atypical purple they are always RED.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

I am going to assume you are trying to do a "Clean" reset on your server.
If so, The PC that you use to load it with has to have the HP connector and updates (anything HP) uninstalled first.

First, which server do you have and are the disks correct for that server?
AS far as The light is concerned I have found that when I am instructed by the software to turn the server on, the I wait for the (Red/Blue Red/Blue Red/Blue) 3 times then press and release the tiny button in the tiny hole on the front, the lights should then change color and then you click next to proceed.

You might try formatting the system drive you are going to use, then place it in the bottom bay of the server (this is where they system drive has to be) and see if that helps.

I went with a 2tb red drive for the system drive so I would have Max capacity when it was full.

Good luck, hope this helps, let use know how it's going.

Sorry for NEI (Not Enough Information my Bad)
It's an HP EX470 I have both v1.0 Recovery and v3.0 Recovery with the corresponding connector software both 32 & 64 bit versions.

I appreciate your input, I have indeed tried all aforementioned steps and never get the atypical 3 red/blue light once in awhile it will go red for one time? One time I was able to get the red light to blink consistantly, but still it has the RED bars on all HD's, I'm not sure what's next?????

TIA

OK, Thx for the info.
It sounds like you are trying to do a recovery/ not a reset.
Difference being you have data on the other drives and are just trying to replace the system drive. I say this because you say the other drive light bars sometimes turn red.

My suggestion would be to mark all the drives (noting which one is the bottom drive) and pull all of them out and set aside.
Then take a known good harddrive that has been formatted and deleted any partitions and place it in the bottom bay and try again to do a "Reset" just to see if it will work.

Failing that, I fear you have hardware problems with your server and may be better off finding a newer model EX-490 on ebay that has the recovery disks with it.

Some people are also looking at NAS and cloud storage as well.

The good news is your data still should be on the drives, you can attach them to a pc with a sata to usb dock or cables and turn on hidden files and folders and you will find a folder named DE it should have all your files so you can save them to something else till you get a server/NAS up and running.

Good Luck and I hope the best for you. Sorry to hear it is giving you problems....
The 470 are getting pretty old and failures would be expected as they get older.

what I do on a problem recovery is take the system drive out of the server connect it to a pc and run diskpart clean.
Don't do all it will take forever.
You need to be careful using it because you need to figure out the drive number not letter and switch to that drive only.
It will wipe the drive to a virgin state from the factory.
Then try again.
