Any chance I can get windows home server 2011's drive extender to prepare my datadisks for a big file transfer? I currently am finalizing a restore of all my data, but I'm unable to copy one of the last files... A 136GB vhxd file. Maybe WHS cannot find enough freespace on any of my 3x 2TB datadisks? IF so, any chance I can force some re-allocation of my data over the disks so I'm certain 1 disk is able to host the 136GB file? I'm copying it from my WHS over the network to my WHS. I can't imagine aything else that gives this cryptic error 'insufficient system resources' when moving the file.

Thanks!

Devnullius

Post-edit: I'm exploring http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php? ... d-service/ and will test TeraCopy. Zipping the file will take another 3 days :(
Post-edit: last comment on wegotserved.com talks about replacing 2x 2GB with 2x 1GB RAM to solve the insuffient system resources. While I not tested it, the previous owner indeed upgraded RAM to 2x 2GB too... I'm running x86 WHS 2011.

I don't have whs 2011 running, but from reading your question, I am wondering.

2011's drive extender
This makes me think your talking whs V1 drive extender.

WHS V1 is a x32 Bit OS. Ram could be a problem on a 32 bit OS.
I believe WHS 2011 is a X64 OS. Ram shouldn't be a problem on a 64 bit OS.

Either way, it may just need to settle in for a few days before you hit it with that big of file.
Good Luck

Most os systems when you copy a file look for temporary drive storage space for a file.
So that means during the copy you need double the space free.
However you do it.
add a temporary pool drive or delete a bunch of smaller files then add them back after you copy the large one.

Or turn off duplication on the server till the copy is complete then turn it back on.
But then there may not be enough room for duplication after the copy.

If that is the case you might as well start looking for a permanent solution to adding more drive space to the pool.
Sooner or later you will need more storage.

You guys are right, I'm on x86 - my bad (I bought it used, assumed I had WHS2011).

Anyways, TeraCopy solved my problem so it wasn't a free space problem after all. Some advanced statistics confirm this conclusion :)

Great, sounds like you got it sorted out.
Good Luck.
