I have an old ex475. First off the Ethernet port is bad but I always used it with a USB dongle. I'm trying to get it up and running. I stuck a fresh formatted drive in bay 1 and it boots to recovery but ends here and won't go any further. Any advice?

It seams to be waiting for the outside to call in, and start the install. But that cant happen since your using a USB dongle type network which wont wake up without a OS and drivers. So, unless you got access to a second system and can configure the system drive there, this is now a brick.

Ok, a brick is a bit harsh. What you could do is boot of a USB device, and configure the system drive that way. But your not going to be able to use the discs the unit came with for this.

It's just a stab in the dark, but from where i am it looks like you need working network, and a USB just isn't that at this point. There are no drivers for it.
Good luck.

Yeah that's what I was assuming. Next question which version of Windows Home Server do these run? Which version is the cd key good for on the bottom? I could probably acquire a copy of Windows Home Server and just do an install from a USB key.
