"the computer failed to take a snapshot of the volume for backup" and the backup failed. The backup worked for 5 days before this, but failed yesterday and today. The pc being backed up is only a month old. I will try do a manual backup now.

2ND Question: I have the backup configured for 3PM - 11 PM, 2 PC's out of 5 were up at the time, but my backup did not kick off til after 4pm, the 2nd one still has not started. Between 3 and 3:45, I was not even using my ststem and it was up and not hiberating? Why doesn't if kick off at 3:00PM sharp?

Is it possible that a virus scan was running, or some other process interfered with the snapshot? Have you installed any new software recently?

You could also search the WHS forums for more info on the error, since the backup feature is WHS.

Regarding your second question, that is simply the maintenance window, WHS decides when to run the backups, download updates, reboot, etc.

Ran chkdsk /f /r ran for several hours, walked away for a minute it ended and booted right into Vista without seeing if there was a problem, shouldn't it at at least wait for an acknowledgment before booting? Seems to have cleared the backup problem, though.
