Want to add the WHS connector to a new win 8 laptop.

The laptop can see the server fine and can access files from the shares on the server.
The connector setup now finds the server, had to enable Some .NET 3.5 components so it could find the server.

Running the connector install software from the web page or from the WHS Software share fails. It pos up a window saying locating server, then downloading software and as soon as it gets 100% I get

Error installing connector software install manually from the software share

I've googled around but doesn't seem to be much about it, the MS link on the issue isnt found anymore.

Any ideas gratefully received.
Thanks

Sounds more like your trying to install the connector from WHS2011 not WHSv1. I only say this because you mention the .NET 3.5 which is a requirement for WHS2011 also if an install fails on a client its best to reboot the client and sometimes the server.

Thanks for the reply. It is definitely the original now at powerpack 3 whs.

There were a couple of .NET 3.5 modules not installed on the client. Adding them meant the whs connector install routine found the server. Didn't change the end result though I.e. the install failed right at the start.

Will try restarting the server and client when I get a chance, thanks

Can I ask you if your using the Client Software on the Disk or are you downloading the software from the server? The client software must be the same as the server so its always best to download it from the server and install it.

I have in the past been able to install the console software onto an Win 8.1 Desktop and do not recall any difficulties getting the client software installed. Take a peek below:

This of course is on a test unit that I had setup just for the purpose of testing Win8 on a WHSv1 Server in this case an EX49x.

Restarting client and server made no difference

I am installing from the Software share on the server (the webpage gives the same result)

The installer says downloading software and then immediately after reaching 100% I get a window pop up that says

An error occurred starting Windows Home Server Connector Setup. Please run Windows Home Server Connector Setup manually from the Software shared folder on your server.

Which is what I've been doing! I know this can work, I just don't know where to start looking to get it to work for me.

Tried looking in the system event viewer in computer management but there's no events to do with the connector installation.

Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Try Downloading the Client Software from Microsoft and give that a try: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=1622

Its been a while but I looked at my EX490 software folder an noticed there is a 32 and 64 bit versions of the software. I have never actually had to think about which version to run just used the link http"//server_name:55000 example to download and install the client software. Its a possibility that the software on your server could be corrupt causing you issues so downloading the software from Microsoft might be a better alternative and if you still experience the same result try running the software in compatibility mode.

The link didn't help.

The download is just a small file that initiates the download of the connector software from the WHS so exactly the same happens...

...Downloading software from server...100%

The same error.

I've tried the http"//server_name:55000 and as I said before I get exactly the same result. Ther server webUI offers a Home Server toolkit - I found the 64 bit version on MS and ran it. I agree to the software licence and it tells me I have successfully finished the wizard - doesn't feel successful.
