I have a ex490. got it about 5 yrs ago. Used TZO.com for the addy. Now I had to get a new addy. And cant get remote access to work. all the ports are forwarded, I talked to DYN, everything is good to go, and all my ports are forwarded. Am I missing something? My DNS isnt even in the list on the HP program.

Are you using the free service from Microsoft included with WHS? (I'm not actually sure that's still in service or not). Are you testing from inside the home? If so, be sure to test from outside such as at work or a coffee shop as many routers don't properly handle this.

Is there a work around at all?

You have to use the Microsoft provided URL, not one of your own, unless you configure it manually on your router. You need to test from outside the home unless you are positive your router properly handles loopback requests.

Then it sounds like you don't have DynDNS set up correctly. You will have to manually configure that, DynDNS support is not built into WHS.

The other thing to look at is the DDNS setting in the router as well or run a utility from DYNDNS which will keep the domain pointing to your network if and when your ISP changes your IP. Its easier to do this on the router side especially if you have an option to setup DYNDNS in the DDNS area of the router. Settings in the router are very straight forward, DOMAIN, DYNDNS USER NAME and KEY or Password.

TZO which was bought out by DYNDNS had a utility that you could run on your server that does the same thing and without the DDNS setup properly your custom domain will not work properly.

As for setting up your EX490 with a custom domain there are guides you can search for to get that done.
