Hi there

I did not have success using a 4TB drive as a non-pooled backup drive. WHSv1 would recognize the full 4TB but would crap out once there was more than 2TB of data on the drive.

I know from past posts that the 3TB works for you Ruben but I could never get the 4TB drives to work.

When I added a 3TB drive to my EX495, I had to update the driver because when I used Disk Management to change the drive to GPT, it still showed 768GB. After the driver update and a reboot, I got 2.78TB.

I then used the 3TB hack to add the drive to the pool.

I know you will feel better when you have that data backed up for the (just in case moment) when the server goes way bad.
Not to hijack the thread, 2 tb drives are the factory way to go, although there is a hack for the 3 tb drives, I would not trust it with pooled drives, but that's just me, kind of like I wouldn't clone.

But:
DieHard, what driver are you talking about or did I miss?
I had two 4TB Red drives that I used for non-pooled backup drives, they worked great till they filled over 2 tb of data, then the server (in my case a x510, same a 490) hung, after a reboot the 4 tb had gone raw and I actually had to RMA them as they would not format in any type NTFS or GPT. It actually killed both of them.

I still would like to use the 4tb drives as non-pooled drives in the 510, but would not do it again unless something changed (like a driver) that might make them work correctly.

Thx in advance for any/all info.

P.S. I took the 2 4tb drives and put them in my win2012E diy box where they work fine. But would like to use my x510's as long as possible.
My w2012e box is still not online, it is for down the road.

I got some update when I used DriverPack Solutions 11 that also include these. See what you have for IDE, mine is ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller. Intel 11/6/2010 Driver version 10.1.0.1008

and

Silicon Image Sil 3531 SATA Controller 6/4/2009 Driver version 1.5.20.1

With these, I saw able to convert the 3TB to GPT and use 2.78TB formatted.
