My office has been having issues with our EX495. It started with dropped connections, every day or other day the server would not respond and it would not shutdown. Booting would take about 10 minutes. Next we started getting duplication errors. I ran chkdsk and found that the 2nd hard drive, data drive, was basically on its last leg. I read the posts in this forum and successfully replaced the data drive and turn duplication back on.

Today we had the same network issue. I looked at the server and the SMART program has reported thousands of bad sectors on the system drive along with multiple other issues. It looks like I need to replace the data drive as well. I have seen posts about performing a server recovery and also looked at the steps in this article: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu ... =c01212953

My questions concerns the data on the secondary data drive. Do I leave the second drive in the server and follow the recovery steps in that article? Will it automatically find that data that is stored on that drive? I assume that I do a recovery and not a a Reset.

Thanks for your help.

If you have Duplication enabled, then your data should be safe on the data drives, though you may lose some or all of your Client PC backups as that is not duplicated by default. You want the data drives installed while you perform the Server Recovery. A search on the site here will turn up many discussions on this.

Yes, recovery, all drives attached except for the new system (bottom bay) drive, not reset.
