I setup a static ip on my EX490 but i moved to a new house and that ip is not in the range of the new location. I have the WHS powered on and I cant see it on the network since the ip is not in that range. How can i get into the WHS to change the ip to dynamic?

Thanks :sanjuan:

Did you change the router when you moved? If so change the router to match what you were using on the server to get the IP Range in order. If for example your old router used 192.168.1.1 and the new router uses 192.168.0.1 just change the router to 192.168.1.1 and the issue will correct itself and you will see the server again.

I am not sure if this is the issue you encountered and if it is then your issue will be resolved. Also some routers can reserve IP numbers for devices using their MAC numbers which is the better way to assign a fixed IP to a device. Should the router fail and you replace it everything will still work and you can then reserve the same or different IP numbers if you know the device MAC numbers. Heck I keep a listing of them so if I need to change the router I just reserve the IP numbers with the devices offline and when they are turned on they still have the same IP numbers.

Not sure if this helps but I figured I would give it a shot assuming that the router maybe different which has happened to other in the past.

Sounds like you connected to the sever via rdp and changed the ip there.
Where you should have just reserved a ip on the router for the server.
You could try remote desktop connection.
Also you may need to connect the server directly to your pc. Since your ip address is not in the same range as your network.

If your unable to resolve the issue then you may want to purchase and install a DEBUG Board which will provide you a video connection to the server at which point you can correct the IP on the server itself. The other thing to look at is the Servers NIC to see if its active or not just to get an idea that its functional.

For more information on a DEBUG Board check out the following link: http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010/05 ... available/

I would direct connect, try to remote desktop into the IP you set and hope for the best. If that doesn't work, I would pickup a cheap router or if you need a good router, your choice, but get a router to attach bot the server and the client to, setup for the IP range and then remote desktop in.

That was the very first mistake/recovery I had on my old ex470, I set a hard IP on the server, good idea normally, but not the way these systems are designed.
Then I picked up a pro class netgear router that I could assign MAC/IP address reservation so everybody would always get the same ip, life is good.

Got my fingers crossed for ya.
