New development... I contacted WD support again after the previous answer. I was suspicious about their answer due to the information found here:

http://www.wdc.com/global/products/feat ... language=1

Quote:
Early 3.5-inch WD drives with Advanced Format supported jumper pins 7 – 8. Placing a jumper on these pins adjusted the drive’s internal alignment for single partition XP installations. Support for this jumper setting is no longer needed on newer drives. For optimal performance on all XP installations WD recommends running the WD Align utility.

I linked this documentation quote to the WD support and this is the reply I got:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Western Digital Support.
I check your query with my supervisor, and for now we do not provide Aligment tool for the drives from the RED series. So you can use only the jumper settings. On the drive to adjust the advanced settings on the drive.
Please reply to this e-mail, and we will be happy to assist you further.

According to this, RED drives can only be used with jumer on the legacy OS, Alignment tool is not supported. As much as I would like this was true, I must say I am totaly confused now because the information I got from support and the information in the document above are totaly opposite.

Will post new replies from support as I get them...

Once again this is the answer I got from WD support regarding RED WD drives:

Quote:
Thank you for contacting Western Digital Support.
I checked everything with my supervisor previously, and you can adjust advanced format by jumper settings 7-8 on the drive. Then everything should work without any problem.
Please reply to this e-mail, and we will be happy to assist you further.
