Hello All

For the last 3 years my EX490 has been burbling away in the background without a problem and has suited my unadventurous IT needs perfectly.

Suddenly I have lost connection with it for no apparent reason. I have tried to reboot, but all I seem to get back to when restarting is a continuous blue flashing health light and all of the individual HDD health bar lights off.

I tried a system restore last night, using a XP laptop, but got a fail at 2 of 4 and the health light turned red.

Any ideas?

I would be greatful for any help. I have looked for similar topics on the forum but not found them.

Thanks Peter

sounds like you may have a bad drive. That usually is the case for your symptoms.
first I would connect the server directly to your xp laptop bypassing any switches or routers.
try to connect again and also try remote desktop connection.
But you probably will need to yank the drives out of the server and connect them to something that you can run chkdsk on them.
Knowing your laptop will not have a drive slot but possibly you have a adapter or a regular desktop with sata ports.

Anyway the wiki here is helpful and so is the manual which explains how to decode the colors of the leds

Thank you for your help.

From reading other posts I have sort of come to the same conclusion so will start checking the HDD's over the weekend.

Thanks for the link

As far as the red health. It is probably due to the recovery did not finish so the drive is missing the OS now.
while you have the system drive in a pc check if there are any files you may wish to save. Such as in the shares folder.
Just in case.
You also may want to delete all partitions on the system drive to make lit look like a unused drive to whs before you remove it from the PC,if you decide to try to use it again. I had to do that once to make restore complete.
