I finally got around to installing the PVConnect add-in to my EX470 because I was looking to use a PS3 to stream media to my Home Theater TV. Installation went OK/no error messages.
However, now, when I start the server console, it starts, but is totally unresponsive. Doesn't matter where I click with my mouse, NOTHING works!!!
Does anyone have any ideas as to the problem??? Is there a software update that I somehow missed???

Hi bnichols welcome to the forums!!!

PVConnect aka Twonky has its own flavor or issues some of which HP itself attributed to. You can do a site search to look up Twonky and get a wealth of info but there are a few versions over time forum members used so you would have to sort that out.

Now let me save you a ton of time and frustration. Check out the ADD-IN Serviio from the link below and also perform a site search to read what others have to say about Serviio which I believe will better serve your needs than Twonky will.

Now this site is jammed packed with all sorts of info to help you enhanse your experience with the EX470 and WHS as well as how to troubleshoot and resolve issues you may encounter along the way.

Thanks for the prompt reply and the links to another add-in. I'm certainly open to anything that might be more stable than "Twonky"
However, as I said, my home server console is totally unresponsive and I don't know how to go about deleting the PVConnect add-in, or performing any other tasks to adjust the server settings and/or install a new add-in.
I am in the midst of trying a second restart, but I'm not holding my breath. I have also tried getting the media server console to function using my laptop, but I had the same problem. It starts, but is totally unresponsive. If this second restart doesn't work, do you think it would help to uninstall the home server console software and reinstalling it???

I am so sorry for missing that part.

What I would do is use the program on one of your computers called Remote Desktop Connection when it asks for the computer just enter the name of your server.

When it connects to your server it will ask for the User Name which is Administrator and Password which will be the actual Server Password.

Once you get past that you will see a Warning Message telling which you should read and then you can close it. You will now see the Servers Desktop and from there you can access the task manager to check out the CPU Load and to see what if anything might be bogging down the CPU. From there if you want you can also shut down Twonky which may in part be causing your trouble.

If your familiar with using Computer Management you can review the Event Logs for your server to see what issues it may have logged in. Somethings these are helpful and they do provide links to help find instructions if they exist on how to correct an issue if available.

Once you look at those items you should take the opertunity to see if you can run the Console from the Servers Desktop to see if it will run there and if so you can then remove the ADD-IN for PVConnect, review what if any issues it may have to report and anything else you may want to look at while there. When you remove an ADD-IN the console will close itself and you will need to restart it to continue with any aditional tasks you may wish to perform.

When you are done you will want to properly close out the session by clicking Start then Log Off. If you just close out the Remote Desktop Connection the actual session on the Server will be left open. There are times when you may want to do this but for the most part you will just want to log off to properly close it and it will shut down Remote Desktop Connection for you.

Now you can try running the console from one of your computers.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks again for your assistance!!!
Was able to establish a Remote Desktop Connection with my HPMSS, but when I right-clicked the desktop icon to open the Windows Home Server Console , it took quite awhile (about 5 minutes) and it was still unresponsive!!! Window title bar - Windows Home Server Console (Not Repsonding).
Tried a second time, and it didn't take as long but the result was the same. Any time I moved the cursor into the WHSC, all I got was the hourglass!!!
As you suggested, I started the Task Manager - CPU Usage fluctutated between 0 and 1%, Memory was stable around 1.75 Gb out of 8.

I forgot to mention, when I logged-off the Remote desktop Connection, I got the message that the WHSC was not responding, so I had the click on End Now, to shut it down.

Since this issue started right after you installed PVConnect were you ever able to use the console after the ADD-IN was installed?

If not then I would make another Remote Desktop Connection to the server and try Stopping and then Disable the Twonky Service to see if you can then use the Console. If that works then you can determine if you want to remove the PVConnect ADD-IN and attempt another install or try Serviio which I think you will find to me a much better option.

I tried another Remote Desktop Connection and was able to connect. I see 3 icons on that desktop - Recycle Bin, Shared Folders on Server and Windows Home Server Console (WHSC).
I can open/start the WHSC, see the icon for PV Connect (between the Server Storage & Network "Healthy" icons), but after that, the WHSC is TOTALLY unresponsive. If I click on any of the icons, PV Connector Server Storage for example, I get the hourglass for about 60 seconds, but that's it!!!
I have to confess, I do not have enough knowledge/skill to know how to STOP the PV Connect add-in any other way than by using the WHSC.
It seems installing the PC Connect add-in was a CFM!!! I'm preparing myself for the worst...backing up the server (about 3.6 Tb), decommissioning it and starting over! Never to install the PV Connect add-in again!!!
Any further thoughts???
While this is very frustrating, I really appreciate the help you are providing. It's certainly better that HP Support.

I am not quite certain I fully understand where you are right now but I get the impression that your able to run the Console from a Remote Desktop Session. If so then you should be able to select Settings and then ADD-INs and simply uninstall Twonky or TwonkyMedia or PVConnect depending on how its actually listed but they are all one in the same.

One thing you can also do while your in a Remote Desktop Session aka RDP or RDC as others refer to it for short is to look at the Free Space on your C:\ drive. The reason is that over time WHS will create logs and they will just eat up the limited space WHS has to operate within often choking its performance.

So if your C:\ drive has very little space to work with and then you install PVConnect then the issue your reporting may not be totally PVConnects fault but the lack of space or a combination of the two. I personally do not need nor do I require Twonky on my server but HP Provided it for DLNA Media Support. The one thing I recall most about it is forum members reporting the load on the CPU. You can perform a site search looking up Twonky and read all about it but there are multiple versions of it depending on which version of the HP Software your running which I believe is 1.x in your case but there is 2.5 for the EX48x and LX19x and then 3.x for the EX47x, EX48x, EX49x and some other units.

You can also Stop and Disable the Twonky Service from loading each time your server boots by selecting START -> Right Click MY COMPUTER -> Left Click MANAGE -> Select Services and Applications -> Services

In the right window pane you will see all the services for your server and if you scroll through the listing you will find Twonkey and if you selct it then you will see if its running or not. You can stop it at that point but then there is a window for Startup Type and there you can select DISABLE but write down the original setting should you chose later on to enable it again.

While your there if you look to the left Window Pane near the top you will see System Tools and under that the Event Viewer. If you do not see Event Viewer just click on System Tools to see it. From there you can review the various Event Logs like Applications, HomeServer, Security, System and others. These event logs can help you identify issues with your server and sometimes cause additional confusion but MS also places links within them to provide additional information about each event and sometimes what if any action you can take to correct the issue at hand and sometimes it will indicate that you do not need to do anything and unfortunately there are times it provides absolutly no information what so ever. These logs can be somewhat overwelming if your not use to them but may provide some additional info to help you out.

Sometimes after I review the event logs and am working on one of my servers I will just clear them and review them on a daily basis to see if there is an issue worth looking into or if a particular event is just intermittant so review them and do not let them drive you crazy just make some notes and clear them out. If you want you can copy the Event Logs to another location but I typically will just clear them out and look at the Event Logs to see what reappears the next day or two.

Other than that just remember the Computer Management screen your looking at also makes you dangerous in that if you mess around in there too much you can self inflict issues upon yourself so be very careful when in there and you will be fine. You computers also have a Computer Management Program to help you work with them just remember you can create problems if you mess around in there too much but its a great troubleshooting tool to help you identify and resolve issues but again please be careful because you are GOD when your in there.

Now you have plenty of tools to help you. There is an ADD-IN called the Tool Kit which will pull up the Event Logs for you to examine from the console so you do not have to actually make an RDP connection but in this case I pointed it out to you only because you would be in there to possibly stop and disable the TwonkyMedia Service to see if Twonky is actually causing the trouble. Just remember if you just stop the service it will turn back on when you reboot the server or if the server calls upon Twonky to run.

Good Luck and let me know how you make out.
