I have a EX490, with no mods (except the HDD bank is now 2 x 2TB WD Black Caviar).

It dead last week and I have tried to recover it, but with no luck. I first tried the run the recovery disk as I had done before, but it fail on step 4 of 4, with no errors. Then tried it a few more times never getting past Step 2 of 4. Next, I performed a recovery with my client PC (Windows 7) in Safe with Networking Mode. It has not made it past Step 3 of 4, again with no error code.

I have opened the Tftpd32 app and viewed the Tftp Server, DHCP Server, and Log Viewer files. There appears to be activity, but it still fails.

Is there anything I can save from this application that would give a glimpse of what is going on?

I am running Windows Security Essentials and Firewall, both disabled and have restored the server twice before without incident (never had to even think of going into Safemode).

Each the system quits, the network light on the EX490 goes out the Tftpd32 terminates, then network comes back on right before the restore times out.

I can post the log files from the last to attempts, as well as some screen shots from the Tftpd32 app.

Thanks in Advance.

Was anybody able to help with this? I've been trying to do a recovery on a 495 for a few weeks, and get the same behavior. I haven't confirmed that the network lights go out, but each time that I've tried, it fails on step 4 of 4.

All of the workstations that I've tested are Windows 7 (x64), running Windows Security Essentials and Firewall. I've disabled real-time activity on WSE, and disabled the Firewall too. I've tried safe-mode, and I've replaced the TFTP with a 64-bit version, but neither seem to help. I'm borrowing a Windows XP laptop to try tomorrow, but am very frustrated right now.

I have run recovery and reset on a ex590 several times.
Once I had the same issue.
I did run chkdsk on the drive and it was fine from my desktop.
What I ended up doing was wipe the drive while connected to my desktop.
Meaning i deleted both partitions.
So it would appear as a unused new drive.
Popped it back in the 490 and recovery worked fine.
Just FYI.
When you run recovery you should connect it directly to the desktop bypassing routers and switches.
Also disable any firewalls or security software.
