Hello!

I need your help. I have an original unmodified ex487 that I decided to do a fresh software install (spring cleaning - don't ask). The server has rebooted but the recovery process has closed down the wizard from finalizing the installation process and now I'm faced with a server whose hard disk lights and the 3 lights next to the pinhole are blinking in unison blue.

I keep receiving the following message when attempting to finalize the installation:

Windows Home Server Connector Setup
An error occurred
(X) This operation cannot be completed at this time.
Please try again later. If the problem persists, please contact Product Support.

Actions taken by me:
1. Several reinstalls with firewall deactivated (Norton Internet Security 2011) via an up to date Windows XP 32 bit desktop directly connected through a D-Link 655 wireless router
2. Used a fresh hard disk to install the old operating system version from the original HP "Software Installation Disk"
3. D-Link 655 recognizes the device: 192.168.0.195 HPSERVER and it is UPnP enabled
4. My Network Places sees:
HPSERVER Windows Home Server
HPSERVER TwonkyMedia
HP Server TwonkyMedia Server
Cannot invoke any of these to start up
5. Pinged the server:
Pinging 192.168.0.195 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 192.168.0.195: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.195: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.195: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 192.168.0.195: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 192.168.0.195:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms
6. Tried http://hpserver:55000/
7. Tried \\hpserver\software, and I do get a connection box:

Connect to HPSERVER
Connecting to hp server
User name: HPSERVER\admin
Password: left blank, or old server password...just repops up again and again...no way to access

No matter what I try, I cannot access the sever to complete the installation.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Roberto

Don't know if this will help. I have done 5 resets/recoverys.
2 failed, they were done connected via router.
3 went fine, direct connected Cat5 from netbook win 32 bit to server direct.

The next thing is, on the first 2 fails, I thought the server had hung cause it was takeing to long (I thought) so I rebooted the server, that may have been why they failed.
The 3 times it went ok, I just walked away and gave it plenty of time (checked for any boxes that might need to be clicked by me) but let it go.
It takes about 6 hours +/- from the time I start to finish, getting all the updates and setting up the basic stuff.

Hope this helps and goodluck.

P.S. The reload was not started because you had hardware problems? System was fine before?

Thank you!!!

The direct connect with Cat5 ethernet cable did it! I isolated the problem to the D-Link 655 router - after the install was finalized, I connected the EX487 to the router, and could not get it to recognize the server - reset the router to factory settings, and that did it...thanks again...
