Hi Folks...

I've been digging and digging and must not be using the correct search terms as I can't figure this out.

I've got an HP EX475 with 2.5TB worth of drives in it. Now, we use this as a business server with logical folders, etc, rather than saving to a workstation and then having it backup to the WHS box.

Problem is, the WHS box has decided to backup all of our workstations (you can blame me, I didn't set the connector software up right the first time) and it has made duplicates of everything, resulting in over 1TB of "junk" backups.

I've run the DB checker and repair and it runs fine.

I mark the backups for manual deletion and then run the repair, it gets a little ways in and crashes.

I DO NOT need any of the data that is in the "backups" since all of my work data is stored in the logical drives and mirrored. But, I DO need to keep the data that has been directly stored to the server, which should not be tied to the backup data at all.

So...anyone got any advice on where to start to reclaim the TB of wasted space? I'm lost.

Thanks

If you are absolutely, positively, 100% certain you want to delete all of the client backups (those which are performed automatically every night), you can use Alex's add-in http://www.mediasmartserver.net/add-ins/#WHSBDBB -- the WHS Backup Database BAckup add-in. On the Settings tab of the add-in, there's a button you can click to delete the backup database. This should delete all of the client backups, but will NOT delete any of the shared folders.

Of course you'll need to visit the Computer Backup tab and reconfigure each connected computer so it doesn't keep trying to back up each night. Otherwise, you'll just get fresh backups after the backup database is whacked, and you'll be back in the same boat.

Matt

Thanks Matt. I will give that a shot tonight. Looks like exactly what I need.

All of the backups have since been disabled since we save everything right to the server :)
