Are the ports on the Router the same as for WHS v1 that need to be opened up?

TCP Ports Used by Windows Home Server


Service Protocol Port

HTTP
TCP 80

HTTPS
TCP 443

Remote Web Workplace
TCP 4125

RDP (Optional - Remote Access direct to your console
Also requires opening Windows Firewall on your server)
TCP 3389

Yes the ports are the same plus any additional ports which need to be configured based on what you add to the server like FTP, EMAIL, Media Streaming and what not. Its all basically the same ball game.

I don't run R2 I decided to stick with WS2012E and let others play with R2 and who knows maybe I will never run R2 and just wait for the next version to come out.
