Did you guys keep the ws2012E standard folders or create your own? If you kept how did you repurpose for home use. If changed what do you have now.

I actually left them alone and just moved them to my storage pool. Of course I had an existing Stablebit Storage Pool from WHS2011 so I had to do some renaming of some of the WHS2011 folders. I then had to recreate the WHS2011 shares for use in WS2012E and then I moved the default WS2012E Shared Folders to the storage pool and left them there,

Have you used folder redirection at all?

No not that I am aware. I have been on the reluctant side to mess around to much with the server ever since I ran into issues with my NIC Team and with MS updates changing my INTEL NIC Drivers which I really need to address but that's another topic. Basically I have taken the very conservative approach and am happy with the way my server is running.

I haven't used folder redirection yet.

My Server Folders are as follows:
Code:
Audiobooks - podcasts and similar
Backups - of other peoples systems, usually in VHD format
Books - for my ereader, will be installing a Calibre server at some point
Client Computer Backups
Comics - for my tablet
Company
File History Backups
Folder Redirection
Music
Photos - pictures I took
Pictures - pictures other people took
Recorded TV - from when I had a pvr card
Users
Videos
Videos 2 - had to split the videos over two hard drives

Thanks for the example, gives me some ideas in directions I might want to go. I thought this might come in handy:

Remove Default Shares in WS2012 Essentials

In Windows Server 2012 Essentials there is no way to remove the default shares from within the Dashboard – But there is a workaround.

If you are fed up with the default "Company" or "Recorded TV" share for example, the following will get rid of any default shares which you no longer require. In the following example "Recorded TV":

In Explorer, stop sharing the folder.
Remove the registry entry with "Name=Recorded Tv" in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows server\Storage Service\Folders.
Stop the service "Windows Server Storage Service" and then re-start it.
It’s up to you if you want to remove the folder or not in Explorer.
Workaround courtesy of Davie Chen from Microsoft.

Thanks for this info, very helpful! The Recorded TV and Media related shares only appear if the 'Media Streaming' option is enabled. I surely want to be rid of the 'Company' folder as I will never use it.

To [morpheus.dreaming]
You say you had to split your videos into two harddrives, I take that to mean you are not using any pooling software.
If you were, all your videos would be in the same folder. I use stablebit for pooling and have it setup to have 3 copies of each file, two copies would be enough, but my data is fairly small but very important.
I used drivebender, but is was pretty plain and I never saw where I could say how many copies of each file so liked stablebit better.
Also on my folders I left the default ones and made my own.

Goodluck all

I was using Storage Spaces, but it messed me about - so back to standard NTFS now.

I played with storage spaces a bit, but heard to many problems, so went with Drivebender first which was ok but kind of plain and then Comp1962 said he had goodluck with stablebit and once I had that installed and setup, I was hooked, It reminds me of the old DE only better.
I could tell it to have 1 copy or 2 copies or 3 copies or 4 copies of each file, very cool and you can have more then 1 pool, so your very important stuff could be in a pool with 4 copies of each and the other normal pool with music and movie rips could be just two copies of each file.

Anyway, I don't worry about the extra folders, I just put my work stuff in the company folder, kind of made sense :-) The recorded tv folder I put TV video in, that made sense as well. Then I made my own folders as normal.
Applications
PC images
Ebooks
VM
ISO
Pay Stubs
Music
Videos
Photos

Thanks for the info those, options is always good since Microsoft isn't that great about giving them, they always seem to think they know whats best for us.
