It occurs to me that a TechNet subscription could be the answer to getting Windows Server 2012 Essentials at price that is somewhat more palatable than $425. A TechNet Standard subscription is $199. A TechNet Professional subscription is $349. Both less than $425 :)

Also, another benefit to buying a TechNet subscription is that you get a ton of other software.

I downloaded the current list of software and Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials is included in both the Standard and Professional versions so maybe Windows Server 2012 Essentials will be as well.

Just a thought...

It maybe a thought but not the intention for a Technet Subscription. Not to long ago they use to allow 10 licenses for most of the available software titles one would have access too and then that was reduced to 2 although server software only has 1.

Good grief! If that happens to still be the case when 2012 Essentials hits the shelves, then 198$ (Cnd dollars  ) could be affordable! And with a spare license for another software.

Well, went to TechNet website (msdn too) and it seems that while you pay 199 for a subscription you have to renew yearly at 149. So not that big a bargain, finally. Unless I missed something.

If you install Essentials it doesn't expire after 1 year. You only need to pay the $149 if you want to renew the subscription. Any software you've installed continues to run.

Thanks for the info TxDot. I'll wait 'till 2012 essentials gets to RTM, then it will be a go! I come to appreciate this server program.
