The one thing every review I've see of the MSS seems to agree upon is that it's a nice-looking piece of hardware. HP seems to think so, too; the next version of the NAS MediaVault appears to be a squat styling of the MSS.

So for those of us who predict that at some point, 4 internal SATA bays will no longer be enough space, how about a MSS-styled eSATA enclosure that has an integrated port replicator? I've seen lots of discussion and questions about which devices will work with the SATA controller on the MSS' mobo, but this sort of HP-provided, MSS-styled device would be truly awesome.

I don't know about you guys, but if I'm paying $200+ just for a *box* to put drives in, I'd be willing to pay a premium on top of that so it matches the existing box I'm hooking it to.

I would like the same thing.
Or even another MSS slaved to the first one
I don't want 2 different cabinets if I can help it.

Count me in, an MSS-styled eSATA enclusure would be fantastic!

Yeah, me too.

Though price would also be a consideration, since a simple black box of roughly the same or somewhat smaller size would also work for me, given where it will go for now. But matching would be nice, and assurance of functional matching would be even nicer.

My complete wish list:

1. Use the same case as the MSS
2. If it doesn't require a motherboard then it should have 5 drive bays
3. If it does need a motherboard - Add a freaking VGA and keyboard port!
4. Ability to control the lights (Holiday!) and fans just like in the main case
5. Power saver - unit would go to sleep mode if not being used. Wakes when backups start running
6. I've added 3 750 GB drives to the MSS configured as storage http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148134
7. Also added a SANS Digital TowerRAID :TR4M: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816111048
with 2 1.4 TB drives configured for backups (so far  ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148337

:encore: Resistance is futile!
