How about a program that can run from the server that will shut down your networked computers at specified times. I used to run all 8 of my networked computers 24/7...until a little experiment...for one month I had each computer shut down at 9:00 PM...the next electric bill came in, and there was a savings of $60. That was enough money for me to keep shutting down the computers every night. Right now I am using a program called WinOff that shuts down the computers each night, but it would be nice to setup the program and make changes from the server rather than going to each computer individually.

Your thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea, have you looked at Autoexit 2008 yet? I think it does some of what you ask, but not sure if it'll automate their shutdown.

You can write a small batch file to do this.

shutdown.exe -m \\computername -s -f

Edit the computername for each machine on your network, pop the lines in a .bat file and set up a scheduled task. We used to do this at my work to save $$$ a year on energy costs.

I wonder if APC will create any add-ins for it... Or if WHS recognizes the APC products like the XP and VISTA series did.

Anyone brave enough to try?

I have old APC's which use the Serial Ports.... :) Just waiting for them to die to have a "real" reason to replace them! LOL
