Hi all,

I had to move my harddrives from one motherboard to another. I was not able to repair or reboot so I ended up reinstalling WHS11 on another hard drive to test the new hardware. I still have my original WHS11 harddrive from the previous setup.

Is there a way to easily copy all my settings from my previous install to the fresh install on the separate hd?

When I switch motherboards again (since I'm looking to build something slightly different), what should I do to WHS11 to "prep" it so that it will easily boot in a new motherboard?

TY :)

Thats a good question. You could try just popping in the drives, boot the sucker up and see what happens. Of course you will have to install drivers and may have to reactivate WHS2011 because of a hardware change. While I am not certain of how many installs you will be able to perform before its no longer allowed without having to contact Microsoft but I think it maybe 3 installs.

You could also perform a Server Recovery Installation or just perform a new installation but if it were me I would just pop the drives in and see what happens.

Oh believe me, I have tried it already! That's why I'm at this stage of questions. :D
When I put the hd in the new motherboard and cranked it up, I see the starting windows screen for a second, then BSOD, then reboot.

I'm at the point, though, that I might as well just continue with the new install. I just hope to eventually find the easy way when I need to swap motherboards again.

The BSOD could simply be a driver thats disagreable with the Motherboard. I would attempt to do a reinstallation of WHS2011.

Windows 8 and 8.1 is portable. Some of the Win 7 (WHS 2011) is portable. But can't depend on it. Clean install should be planned.
