Hello,

I just setup a DIY WHS 2011 box (my first one with WHS 2011). Everything has gone fine so far, exempt for one glitch. I have a old custom DNS entry for my home that I planned on using, so I manually setup the remote access (clicked to on) and manually setup my router. This leads to the RDP proxy failing to work due to never having completed the Remote Access setup wizard (which causes a SSL certificate issue).

I went through the remote access setup wizard, but when the wizard prompts for a Windows Live ID username and password it fails to login. I've verified my username and password by trying it on live.com … any ideas / suggestions as to why the wizard keeps giving me a login failure? I'd REALLY like to get the RDP proxy setup.

Thanks!

Are you using the full live account name which looks like an email address if so then maybe the issue is with MS Live Domains in which case I would try it out later possibly tomorrow.

no you need an account name ending with @live.com, @outlook.com or @Hotmail.com for it to work

Oh really? My Live account has always used a username "USERNAME@yaho.com" … this works for my TechNet account and everything else. I guess I need to sign up for another account.

Thanks!

Just give it a try to see if it works better for you and if not then the issue would be with the MS Live Domains. Would not be the first time MS has technical difficulties.

I added an alias to my Microsoft account (USERNAME@outlook.com) and it still rejects the login. I'll have to try again in a few days.

That's a bummer so its possible its just MS having issues.

So following advice I found on another forum I uninstalled the MS Live Sign-In Assistant and reinstalled a slightly newer version. I was then able to successfully sign in to MS Live and get Remote Access working. Just thought I'd share!

Now I'm back to pondering how to replace my 38TB EX490 (upgraded) with WHSv1 ...

Did you have Windows Live installed on the server?

No, but either WHS2011 be default or by Update Rollup 4 installs the sign-in assistant for the domain registration login. The TechNet forum suggested uninstalling the version on my server and installing the latest from MS. Seems to have worked.

ok. Its something I never encountered with any WHS2011 server I have setup for myself or others. I will keep that in mind for future installs.
