My main desktop is in my bedroom and I put it into Hybrid Sleep at night. It's silent (not a single moving part in it) but it has a big, bright blue light and illuminated keyboard and I'm such a light sleeper it wakes me as it power up during the night. The WHS2011 box is set to back up the PC between 6pm and 10pm when I'm using it and this happens according to the back-up stats.

However, the server is set to back itself up to an external USB drive at 4am but it seems to wake the PC around the same time too. Can I simply disable the PC from being woken by LAN? I never use remote access to the PC and don't mind missing the 10PM back-up if the PC isn't on (as it means there's nothing to back up!).

Thanks :)

I do not have a quick setting answer for you but if you uninstall the client software, reboot the client and then reinstall the client software you will be given the option to wake the client up or not just do not select wake up the client and hopefully that will do the trick. Now if you did that then load the BIOS up on the client and look for a WAKE ON LAN setting and disable it.

I would change the setting to backup during the day (like at noon) for the client and the server. If the contents of both don't change that much, the backups shouldn't take long and would happen while you at work or if you are on it, (my netbook backs up about half the time when I am using it) doesn't hurt a thing.

I have a lenovo all-in-one on the wall in my wifes sewing room and it wakes me up about once a week at like 3 am, I don't know what is waking it up but must be something looking for updates. Good thing it only does it once a week
I my get tired of it a go looking for setting one of these days. :D

Goodluck

I think I configured the back-up to happen at 4am as this is the time I'm least likely to be using the PC. But you're right; the daily data changes will be tiny so it won't cause any interruption. I think I'll set it to 6.30pm so if/when it does wake the PC up it'll be as I'm due home to use it!

Mine is set to 6a to 9a and it gets all 5-6 of them during that time. I just keep on reading or surfing, doesn't seem to effect it much.
