Post subject:  Unable to install Connector again....

So, I have a machine which once had the connector installed, I uninstalled made some changes to the server including installing the UEFI hotfix, then went about re-installing it to my laptop so it could be backed-up again.

Anyways, it failed... I've tried everything I can think of to restore resolve it.

According to DR google it was claiming my task scheduler was corrupt or my .net 4.0. So I created a test task and it worked and then re-installed .net 4.0. No dice.

Tried MSconfig and disabled everything that started with the machine still no good.

Here's some of the errors from the logs. (now what gets me is it tries to install the hotfix for UEFI on this windows 7 machine) It should not and will not work... Why is it doing this?

Client core log (why is it trying to install kb2781278?????)

I have the same problem, with the same messages (though I'm on an x86, not an AMD installation of Windows XP). Has anyone come up with a solution for this yet?

I have the same exact problem. It is my only 32-bit Windows 10 Home laptop. Before you say that Windows Home Server does not support Windows 10, let me tell you that I have 2 Windows 10 Pro and 5 Windows 10 Home PC's and laptops that are already connected and being backed up daily without any issues. I do have the hotfix applied. One of my laptops would not connect until the hotfix was applied. All of my Windows 10 Home and Pro systems that are working are 64-bit. I'm only having an issue with my one and only 32-bit system. The 32-bit system failed before and after the hotfix was applied. So, removing the hotfix is not the answer. It is a single hard drive labeled as the C: drive in a MBR format. Nothing fancy about this system. I tried numerous potential solutions from Google searches, none of them has worked. One option said to turn off secure boot in the BIOS, but I do not have that option. Unless someone can diagnose this problem, my last option is to install a 64-bit version of Windows 10 on top of the 32-bit version.

Does the time, date and time zone on the laptop match the server ?
Have you tried copying the connector software from the server to a USB key and run that on the laptop ? You should not be running the connector software from the CD as that is out of date.

Yes, all of my PC's and laptops have the same time, date, and time zone. I seen that mentioned numerous times as a suggestion to problems. All of my computers are synchronized via the internet using the "" website.

I am not running the connector software from a CD. I invoke the process from a browser via the "http://<yourservername>/connect/" URL. I have also tried it using different browsers. The connect process connects to my WHS 2011 server and downloads an initial program. I then execute that initial program and after answering a few questions, it downloads additional software from the WHS 2011 server. The progress bar gets to about 98% complete and then it reverses and removes the updates that it was trying to install. The "hotfix" kb2781278 contains an updated connector file. I installed the "hotfix" to my WHS 2011 server and rebooted the server. The WHS 2011 server knows that it has new connector software and it tells you to uninstall the installed connector software and then install the new connector software and reboot your client computer. All of my WHS 2011 clients have been updated this way to receive the new connector software from kb2781278. I have 7 Windows 10 (Pro and Home) clients being backed up daily on this new connector software.

As far as a USB key, I have not done that. Is that the same key that you make when performing a bare metal restore? The process does not ask you for a file location. I do not know how the USB key would be implemented. Is the USB key used to make sure you are using the correct program level? Pulling the programs from the WHS2011 server directly should be getting the most current program versions.

My laptop that is having the issue was upgraded from Window 7 Home 32-bit to Windows 10 Home 32-bit. It was being backed up daily by my WHS 2011 server when it had Windows 7 installed. It has never connected since the Windows 10 upgrade. Since all of my 64-bit Windows 10 computers are working ok, it has to be something either will this particular laptop or the 32-bit version of Windows 10 with WHS 2011.

My problem is solved, but it does not make any sense. The only change I made was to clone my HDD to a SSD so that I could play around with installing Windows 10 64-bit. After the clone process was complete, I thought that I would give it one more try, and the connector software installed perfectly. No other changes were made. As I said, it does not make any sense.

I am having the same issue. WHS 2011 server. I can't get the connector to install. The client is a freshly installed Win7 machine.

I can see and access the shares over the network. RDP works fine. I can ping the server just fine. There is no good reason for this to not work!!

The webpage to install the connector from software from does not work. It kicks out some sort of error. Tried MS find my server, that don't work. Can anyone help?
