Nightmare - sorting backing up my N54L what with the 2 TB limit and all associated with it.
Anyway, have held off buying a backup drive as I want esata for speed and 2TB ones are hard to come by for £100 which is all I am prepared to spend. Currently the keenest priced is the Freecom 56067 at just under £118. Am considering Allcam IT-735 USB 2.0 and e-SATA combo Enclosure for 3.5" SATA Hard Drives -Black and purchasing a 2TB drive. Having read what is on the web it is not entirely clear to me whether an external esata drive will function without altering/flashing the bios. Please can you help me with this?
Thanks,
Mike.

Pretty please nicely with bells on it?
Would really appreciate confirmation before buying external hard drive; think all posts about upgrading the bios are for port multipliers and further speed increases but just checking.

Check that AHCI is enabled. That is what allows for hot swap support in SATA.
