I have just transferred by whs 2011 to a new N40l and made sure to thoroughly back up the files on my previous installation beforehand.
After completing a new installation on a new primary hdd, I connected the backup drive to check that it recognised the files and they were all there. Everything went well so far!
Next up I connected and setup my data drives 4 x 2TB in a RAID 10 setup, 2 of these were from the previous server, hence me checking the backup before connecting the drives. Configuring the raid 10 erased all data.
All good, so I started restoring files and Left it over night. When I got up this morning only about 50% of the data had restored and my backup drive had gone from about 1.8TB used space to 15GB! Gaaah!
So I'm guessing that the restore was stopped when the backup started. I configured backup because it wouldn't allow me to restore without the drive added to backup. When I did that I meet expected the backup to take priority over the restore!
So I'm hoping beyond all hope that there is something I can do about it. I've used undelete and file recovery software before but I'm not sure how this will work when the server backup is essentially image based.
Anyone have any suggestions, or am I basically shafted!?
