Hello,

I recently had to reinstall my OS on my PC that I usually had no issues with when I tried to remote desktop into my WHS 2011. Now it's saying the account doesn't have remote access granted and it definitely does. What can I do to regain the ability to remote desktop into my WHS 2011 server? I already made sure, after reinstalling windows 7 on this PC that I can remote desktop in and allow my PC to be remote connected .... I'm just confused why I'm getting this error.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi rowedf welcome to the forums!

When you mention Remote Access are you refering to using the software Remote Desktop Connection or are you attempting to logon to your server from the Internet. The user account should not of changed on the server side since the only change that took place was with the client. The other thing that comes to mind is that your able to get on the server but are attempting to connect from the server side to the client.

If you would be so kind as to straighten me out then maybe I can replicate the issue on my end to help you find a solution on your end.

Thanks for the reply.

That's what is strange. It's not the web remote connect, I can still do that fine from almost any client PC ..... it's my ONE pc had set up to allow remote desktop connect (right click on the server icon and choose remote connect) .... but since I reinstalled Windows 7 Professional, it says I do not have access.

Any other options for me to be able to Remote Desktop Connect to my server? Kinda cripples me because I don't have any devices connected to the server, not even a monitor and relied 100% on remote connecting to do things.

Thanks again,
Dave

Have you tried logging in as administrator? Can you share a screenshot of the error message?

I will as soon as I get home. I'm the admin on my PC so that shouldn't change much.

Snapshot of my username on the WHS showing I have remote access allowed.

Try using Administrator for the User Name and use the Servers actual Password for the the Password and you will always be able to get on.

WHS has always been setup to only allow the Administrator named account to logon via a Remote Desktop Connection. I believe if you want individual Administrator accounts you would need to run Windows Small Businees Server 2011 Essentials but its a mute point if your the only one who is the actual Administrator.

You could also change the actual name Administrator to something more to your liking but if you ran into an RDP issue like the one you just went through others like myself would be telling you to logon as Administrator and yet your name would be different and who knows 2 yrs from now you might even leave out the little detail that you changed the name on that account.
