My whs will not install any outside add-inns. For example auto exit. I can not see the add in as available. The MSI file is the correct location. Am i missing a step?

WHS 2011 doesn't use MSI files for Add-Ins. What Add-Ins are you trying to install?

Have you tried our Add-Ins?

Hi prybar,

Welcome to MediaSmartServer.net! We're glad to have you in the community.

Before we can provide you with more help, we're going to need a bit more information than what you provided. The version of Windows Home Server is certainly a crucial point in this case, and if you want to provide some hardware details, that may be helpful. In this case, however, I think we can address the question just by knowing what version of WHS you're running.

There are two versions of WHS..."v1" and "2011." WHS v1 is the first incarnation of Windows Home Server, based on Windows Server 2003. It's a 32-bit operating system, and it had three major service packs, called Power Packs. If you're running WHS v1, you want to make sure you're at the latest Power Pack, which is 3.

WHS 2011 hit the market as a finished product this year. WHS 2011 is based on Windows Server 2008 R2, and is a 64-bit (x64) operating system.

If you're running WHS v1, then the correct way of presenting an add-in to the Server is to deposit the MSI file in the \\SERVERNAME\Software\Add-ins folder. If the add-in developer built the MSI correctly, this should cause WHS to detect it and change the server health state to "at risk," with a health item showing that the add-in is ready to install (if it isn't installed already). Log into the WHS Console, go to Settings > Add-Ins > Available and click Install next to the desired add-in.

If you're running WHS 2011, add-ins are not distributed as MSI files, but rather as WSSX files. To install a WSSX file, you log into the WHS box and double-click the WSSX file in Windows Explorer to install it.

Not sure which version of WHS you're running? If the WHS Console/Dashboard is primarily blue in color, you're running WHS v1. If the Console/Dashboard is primarily green in color, you're running WHS 2011.

Hope this helps.
