My installation of WHS2011 on a HP LX195 went well, no problems at all EXCEPT...

The one machine with a direct, cable connection to my wired/wireless router quits backing up after reaching the 7% mark. I can connect to the server just fine via the launchpad, either the Dashboard or Remote connection, but I cannot backup this machine. Mind you, I have 2 wireless laptops and they back up just fine.

Any suggestion, O WHS guru or lurkers??

Joe

Check Event Viewer on both client and server, perform a chkdsk on the hard drives in the client PC. That's where I would start.

Thanks for the input, Yakuza, but, alas, it didn't work. I checked both drives (the one with WHS2011 and the storage spaced for backups and the external disk on which I have the backup of the OS) and on the one client machine (where I found the C drive somewhat messed up with regard, I think, to "security descriptors"). So, all drives in the WHS machine and the client were checked, made or found to be ok, but that machine *still* breaks off at 7% of the backup and gives an "failed" notice.

Any other suggestions, o wise one?

Thanks!

Joe

Maybe a bit late for a response ..... run CHKDSK /R /F on the client PC - yes with those switches!

I had a similar problem on a client PC and the standard CHKDSK was not picking up a bad disk area which for some reason the WHS backup wants to look at. In the end, I had to rebuild the PC with a new system disk manually before I could get a good backup.

This was a wireless netbook, but I think the network connection is immaterial for this problem.
