I built my own WHS running WHS 2011 RC currently. However I am having issues with the server sleeping. I have Lights-Out installed and configured to put the server to sleep however it does not work. I have attached some screenshots showing the configuration and uptime.

Anything in either the Event Log or Application Log?

Yes but I don't see anything related to sleep. I just noticed today that I had my backup period set from 5pm-12am, and the server configured to sleep at 11:45pm. I'm going to check the uptime log tomorrow to see if the server sleeps now. If not I will post the application Log. Thank you for your help.

OK no worries. We would just need a little more detail to try and assist you.

What version of Lights-Out are you running? The latest version is 1.5.0 build 1470 (official release candidate).
When you have active (running) clients, you must use the force option for calendar tasks.
Please read page 33 http://www.axonet.de/vail/beta1/Lights- ... 202011.pdf

I just installed the RTM version this past weekend. I was sure to enable the force option. I'll report back in a few days to see if that helped.

I had the same problem after installing Lights-Out, the server (ex490) still would not sleep at the designated time, in my case 2 am to 8:15 am even with the forced setting on. I went back and checked all the setup requirements for lights-out; updated vid driver, hybrid sleep, network adapter settings etc. – still no scheduled sleep.
Then I checked the tasks scheduled on the server – I found a number of tasks scheduled in the sleep time frame I wanted. I changed these to appropriate times around my sleep time, and so far so good – wakes and sleeps at the correct times for about a week now.

Apparently WHS won't enter sleep mode if it's using the default VGA video driver. Install the latest video driver for your chipset. (This worked for me BTW).

Tried updating the video driver. I'm not really sure what is going on. According to the logs some nights this works perfect other nights.... it doesn't work at all. It appears to be blocked by something. I have checked my backup time, it is from 5pm-11pm.

The server is the green bar.

Glad I found this post. I almost gave up on the RTM WHS 2011 build due to sleep issues. I couldn't get the server to sleep and evaluated more than a few Linux equivalents, but didn't want to throw away the money spent on the RTM build.

I have a Dell Hybrid Studio Desktop that outlived its usefulness as a standard desktop. Sure enough when I pulled down the latest A-rev video drivers, the server had no problems going to sleep. I used the Win 7 64-bit package from the Hybrids's support.dell.com site, and after extracting the package ran the installer. After a reboot, the video resolution was noticeably better with smaller fonts, etc.

I set sleep to one minute, disconnected the RDP and browser sessions from my main system, and then watched the disk activity light spin down starting at one minute. Pings to the server don't respond, so it appears that the sleep state is working properly. Will experiment further with sleep intervals that make sense for the family's daily computing and backup patterns, but looks like upgrading the video driver from the base VGA did the trick.
