I have a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo RND2000 and I was thinking about trying to set it up at my brother's house in order to back up my server remotely. I have also purchased a license for cloudberry. I am running WHS2011.

What would be the best way to set this up, taking security and ease of use into consideration?

These are my thoughts at this point:
1) Set up the server (FTPS? HTTPS?) on the ReadyNAS and back up directly to that.

2) Set up a VPN (directly between the servers? he is running a WHS2011 machine as well) between the networks and back up as if it were a local drive.

Cloudberry currently supports backing up to a local drive. Their website said that FTP backup was coming soon but apparently that was posted to throw off the competition. The feature is not yet planned.

I would be grateful for any suggestions or insight on the issue.

What about mapping the FTP server to a local drive on the server? I think if I was able to do this, cloudberry would be able to manage the backups. Here are some options I found for doing this:

http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-ti ... th-ftpuse/
http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-ti ... net-drive/
http://superuser.com/questions/67551/mo ... -windows-7
http://www.webdrive.com/products/webdri ... lient.html

Cloudberry does have the ability to encrypt the files before they are backed up, so that adds another layer of security....

Does Cloudberry support WebDAV targets?

Most NAS's and WHS can present drives as WebDAV...

I managed to get Cloudberry up'n running on my EX490/WHS2011 this week. One particular issue was that backup failed when my NAS (a Synology DS209j) was mapped as a network drive on the home server. When i removed the network mapping backup would succeed. I believe this has something to do with duplicate credentials, but i'm no expert on the matter.

So; mapping the FTP server to a local drive then might not work for the same reasons it did'nt work for me.
