I am looking at setting up a server, I'm wondering if it is possible to stream from a Windows Home Server 2011 to remote Windows Media Extenders through the internet?

If its not, does anyone know a route I can take that will allow me to stream to them remotely through the internet.

Thanks

Maybe you can give more details about what type of extender you have in mind?

Plex (see my writeup here) might be a good option for you

My goal is to be able to have devices like DVD players that are currently capable of streaming media in my home, be able to connect to the media server in my home from a remote location through the internet. For instance I would like to be able to be at my cottage in the summer but leave my server with all of my movies and music at home.

Is it possible?

For DVD players they need to support UPnP, and then you would need to have some sort of UPnP app set up on your Server (like Serviio, TVersity, etc...). This should work in your house. As far as outside your house this will only work if whatever Server app you are using supports streaming over the internet. For example, Plex supports this, but the catch that only certain devices work with plex (i.e. LG TVs, Roku, iOS/Android mobile devices, etc...)
