I recently got a Linksys / Cisco WVC80N and I've installed and configured it. I have opened the right ports, forwarded everything, and configured the camera so it can be seen from the internet and records to one of the hard drives on the server. So... all good. I also installed the Linksys monitoring software on my WHS2011, and I have a problem with it. That's not the point though. I've been investigating a range of Video Monitoring Software with an eye to adding more cameras later.

I've tried Milestone's XProtect Go which looked excellent but turned out to not support the WVC80N because it isn't ONVIF compatible or something silly like that.

I tried iSpy Connect and I love the fact that I could upload a floor plan of my place and position cameras on it. Totally awesome. But I don't like how iSpy can only be accessed through their web site.

I'm going to try both webcamXP and Blue Iris.

What I'm interested in is if anyone else has installed and used a good VMS package that they could recommend. Anyone?

Jmpage2 wrote a pretty good set of posts on his Blue Iris implementation here

After using webcamXP and discovering that I couldn't uninstall it (I've written to them to ask them how) I installed Blue Iris.

It's awesome. Works like a charm, grabs the audio too. I've written to the support people about one particular issue, though, and I hope you guys might be able to help too.

I enabled the web server on port 8081. I am able to view the page locally (using either localhost or the server name) without a problem, but on the LAN when I try (using either 192.168.1.100:8081 or the server name) it does not work.

I'm not even going to try to access the page from the internet, even though I have forwarded port 8081 to 192.168.1.100 on the router. Any ideas? Is this a windows firewall issue?

I think I fixed it. I just added Blue Iris to the Firewall and allowed local and public access, now it seems to be working!

I use WebcamXP and have had great success and reliability with it. I tried BlueIris but never could get it configured correctly. People love BlueIris so it might be worth the effort to get it working. For me, since WebcamXP has worked so well, I'm sticking with what works. If in the future it brakes, I'll look into BlueIris again. I think whichever you get running will work out well for you.
