I've done a bit of searching of the forums on this one so do forgive me if it's already been asked....

I was always under the impression that the file format used by WHS 2011 was not standard NTFS so if your server failed you couldn't read your data drives in just any PC like we could with WHS v1. But then listening to a podcast this morning I heard a WHS MVP say this was not the case.

Could someone clear this up? Maybe I'm remembering back to when the initial releases of WHS 2011 still had drive extender....

No, they are standard NTFS formated files and can be read in any windows system.

The new Drive Extender that was removed from WHS 2011 was in an unreadable format, that's probably what you are remembering.
