Folks, I'm looking at buying two sticks of memory from newegg -- Patriot Signature DDR2 PC2-6400. The specific part is here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820220525

My question is if anyone has dealt with Patriot memory and if they've had good or bad luck with them. I've been a G.Skill fan myself, but comparable memory is way more expensive from them. Newegg's got a promo going on these right now through September 7 for $49.99 per stick--regularly $59.99 with $5 off instant and an additional $5 off with a promo code. And free shipping!

Voltages all look right for an EX490 and an EX487, but the CAS Latency is one I've never understood -- the CL for this memory is 6. I've seen other memory with CL 5. Which is better? Will I really notice a difference?

Long story short, is this a good choice or a bad choice? Or maybe good for the EX487 but bad for the EX490, or vice versa?

Here are the specs.

ECC: No
Unbuffered
PC2-6400 (800MHz) dual Data Rate
240-Pin Dual in-line memory module
2 Rank Double-sided module
7.8US Refresh Interval (8192 CYCLES/64MS)
1.8V Power Requirement
Auto and self refresh capability
PCB height: 1181(mil)
Serial Presence-Detect (SPD)
100% Tested
RoHS Compliant

I have this exact memory and I can tell you it works just fine in my EX490, but it has not made any noticeable performance increase.

Thank you. I went ahead and ordered two sticks--one for my EX487 and another for the EX490. I believe the max the mobo supports is PC2-5300, but most will accept the faster (6400) memory; it'll just operate at the slower (5300) speed.

My EX490 will only be able to use 2-3 GB of it until I upgrade it to WHS 2011. For now the 487 is being used for that purpose...mainly to develop against and also test out StableBit Drive Pool.
