I have recently built a Win 7 Ultra system: i5 2500K, 7 TB of storage (lots of other goodies too, but irrelevant here) and would like to know if there is any advantage to setting up WHS in a multiple OS boot. I undserstand that WHS is not an add-on to the Win 7 system (or am I mistaken in this) and believe that WHS can add to whole house access. Can anyone provide info on setting up WHS in a multiple OS set-up.

Another feature I would be interested in is in setting up a singular web host, i.e. hosting my own site.

Any comments and information would be appreciated.

I don't see why you would want to multi-boot, as you would be unable to backup your PC while WHS was running and you'd be unable to stream media to your PC from the server while the PC was booted.

The idea is to set up the server to share files on the server with laptops and other media devices (including an Xbox) and have the other devices to stream media to the server for storage. But I don't want to lose my current Win 7 setup. An alternative might be using an Ubuntu server in multiple boot.

I guess I just don't get how you plan to manage two critical systems on one piece of hardware without virtualization...

I don't plan to use them simultaneously. At one point (on another system) I was running OS2, Linux and Win XP as different boot options. I used one as a file server, another for certain apps and the third for fun and because I could do it. I am not certain that I will do anything but look at WHS and later remove it. Actually, I am looking for info, positive and negative to help me make a decision on purchase.

I'd recommend running it in a VM, personally.

Those will get you going on VMWare, and tutorials exist on other sites for Virtual Box or other virtualization platforms.
