Hello,

I know a lot of people have installed WHS 2011 on their MediaSmart, EasyStore or any other OEM manufacturer. Everybody has been complaining about the status lights not working with WHS 2011 since no driver is installed. I know lot of people worked on trying reverse engineering, even one create a linux driver which is working as far as I know. If you're still waiting for a driver working with led managements on these servers, your wait might come to an end really soon. A user at WeGotServed is working on a driver now and need some people with different hardware to test the driver. He developped a driver for the EX48x, and it is likely working well. He is also working on EX49x and X510. He started on H340. There should be an official release soon. For now, he wants some people interested to test the driver and have their feedback.

One drawback is that he will not develop any driver for the EX47x because of the hardware limitation and didn't get much requests for that hardware. I had a discussion with him about the hardware limitation and told him that most of EX47x owners have at least upgraded their memory to 2Go. So, if you, EX47x owners have had performed the upgrade and want to have a driver also for your server, I suggests you head over to this thread at http://forum.wegotserved.com/index.php/topic/18458-hp-ex48x-lights-management-driver-for-whs-2011/, and post your request. If he receive enough requests for that hardware, he might be willing to work on the EX47x series.

Claude

Hi Claude,
I posted my experiences with the program and it looks very positive. My system (EX485 modified) may be too over the top for current level of development. Thanks for your work so far.

I have an EX485 with the modified EX495 Bios, so I couldn't install the package for the EX485 because it checks the Bios. I installed the EX495 Trial 3 package and it works fine on my machine. I initially had 2 blinking drive lights until I realized that there must be a shared folder on the drive to utilize the the lights. That done everything works as advertised except for my GPT formatted 3TB drive which isn't recognized by the HPservice. So if you just have 2TB drives or less, your machine will have the drive lights back and no blinking health light on WHS 2011.

Hi,

I just installed whs 2011 last night and I also installed the lights management for my mss 495 system. I currently have four 2 tb drives in the unit and have three blinking aqua lights. I also installed stablebit drive pool, i read in your post that you set up a shared folder? How do I set up a shared folder when useing stablebit or should i have set it up before installing stablebit.

In the Lights management service notes it said if lights are blinking the hard drive is not assigned.

What do you think i need to do to have all lights on.

Thanks,

John
