Thought I'd drop a post here to help people out that are looking for a way to configure WHS2011 to allow RDP from the remote web site direct to the server desktop rather than the dashboard.

I googled a lot to try and find the answer, but most people just said to open port 3389 on the firewall and RDP direct to that port. This doesn't help me because the only access I have to the internets is via http/https and using the built in Remote Desktop Services Gateway is ideal for me. (Definitely better than RDP to a different machine on the network then RDP from that machine to the server)

So after some digging around in the RDP assemblies in the website I noticed they were checking a dword reg value 'EnableServerRemoteDesktop', and if it didn't exist or was 0 it would add the alias to the dashboard app to the rdp file it generates.

Creating the value in 'HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows Server\RDP' and setting the dword to 1 allows you to RDP directly into the desktop of the WHS server.
