Hello!

I want to update my HP X510 from WHSv1 to WHS2011.
Installation was via unattended USB-Flash key on old SATA HDD.

Now i have to get my data & files to new WHS2011.
Old configuration (WHSv1 with folder duplication) was:
1st HDD: 1TB for System + files
2nd HDD: 1TB for Files
3rd HDD: 1TB for Server Backup (including files) installed in tray 3.

I also have left one 1TB HDD in my PC which I can use in the WHS2011, but there is
stilla data on it i also have to copy to server before erasing this HDD.

Now my question is, how do i get the data migrated from the old HDDs
to the new Server 2011? Can i insert the e.g. 2nd or 3rd HDD to the new
WHS2011 installation? Because i don't want to by 1 or 2 ne HDDs and even
if i would. I dont now exactly how to copy files over?

What is the correct way on migrating Data and Files from WHSv1 HDD storage pool to WHS2011?

Thanks in advance!
Kind regards!
Markus

Hi offset.

Good to see the WHS 2011 install went OK on the X510 - I've been pondering that myself.

Where did you manage to obtain a copy of WHS 2011 from ?? I've looked everywhere.

So your WHS v1 is now no more ?? It's now a WHS 2011, is that correct ??

If so then I believe the the only way would be to put each disk into an external disk caddy and connect via USB and copy the data.

You're going to have to utilise the spare 1Tb drive you have and then copy the data from WHS v1 drive in caddy to newly installed 1Tb drive in WHS 2011.

Then repeat for each drive you have.

What are you using instead of DE, Drive Bender ?? Or will you not bother ??

Keep us in the loop as to how you get on.

Good luck.

Hello!

I got one Copy via MSDN and installed it on old 250GB HDD.
So I was able to switch back to WHSv1 because of many problems
encountered with WHS2011:

First thing was, you should not use Underline in Computername.
Best thing is to name it like "MainPC" - or "HTPC"; "HTPC_W7" wont work!
Second, no autologon: if you auto logon on your client, connector software wont install.
third, start manually (if you get an error message regarding installation of connector software)
"Windows Media Center Receiver Service" and "Windows Media Center Scheduler Service".

After all this, i got the error message that server is offline, i was fed up with all those problems so i decided to
put my WHSv1 System HDD und Data HDDs back and WHSv1 startet without any problems.

But i would appreciate it if someone can has some tips and hints to get the WHS2011 running
without problems on X510.

Thanks in andvance!
Kind Regards!
Markus from Austria/Europe

I had that as well - very annoying.

I saw that link as well, but I never did get the connector software to install.

I stopped using WHS 2011 as my backup server and reverted to my WHS v1 server.

MS need to sort that out !!

When is SP1 due

Yes you are right maybe we should wait for SP1 but it will take some time
til MS will release it. What a pitty, i thought WHS2011 will be the "ultimate"
Home Server with many imoprovements over WHSv1.

But if they dont manage to fix those issues (i als saw other user who experienced
those problems, but no really workaround for the "server is offline" issue), we have
to use WHSv1 for a while.

Did you try to start those service manually? after i startet them, connector installed.
Try also to restart the server and the client, than enabling the services.

Kind Regards!
