Seeing the post on automated backups, I did not want to intrude, but did want to add another way. http://www.openegg.org/forums/posts/list/28.page. As you can see form the link this has been tested and stable on WHS for some time. It may be viable in some scenarios.

Thanks for the post, Ben. I'll definitely read the post and see if I should think about using this as a new part of my backup stategy. Thanks for the reference. :mss:

With the recent devastating announcement (at least for me and I am guessing a few others :D ) that Vail will not have Drive Extender, I thought it might be appropriate to revive this thread. Ben's (benogil) first post here addresses using FlexRAID for a slightly different reason (automated backup). Non-the-less, I have been hearing some encouraging things about the possibility of using FlexRAID to replace the loss of Drive Extender. More information about FlexRAID is in Ben's first post here and more information can be found here:

http://www.openegg.org/FlexRAID.curi

Could it be that FlexRAID could be an even better alternative to using DE? I am hoping that some of you that know more about RAID than I do would care to comment on the pros and cons you see to using FlexRAID with Vail when WHS v2 becomes available.

Alex, if you have time I would certainly appreciate your thoughts on this or maybe even a blog post on the subject if you think the idea has merit.

If anyone has knowledge of FlexRAID's benefits or shortcomings or has experience with it would you please consider discussing your thoughts here in this thread? I am very hopeful this might be a solution for all of us who love and will miss DE.
George

I've looked at some of the alternatives briefly but not yet thoroughly. From what I've seen you for sure won't get as easy an interface as was made available by DE. We'll be sharing more on what we find over the coming weeks and months, unfortunately I don't have much to add at this time. Hopefully we'll hear from others with more experience!
