I'd be willing to bet that someone will make an iPhone enabled site for Whiist.

Even better would be someone that had the new SDK and could make some sort of widget....

If I had the cash I'd buy one of the new iPhones and try.

The new one will be released in july for 199. Im not fan of the new one myself. it looks cheap compared to the original. That and the service is more and 3g isnt even out in most areas and they crippled GPS by not allowing realtime updates.

I would recommend using logmein ignition - iphone edition. Works amazingly well. Basically you install logmein free or professional on your WHS (free is more than adequate), install it through an RDP session and then downloand logmein ignition on your iphone through the iphone Appstore.

Works really well over 3G and wifi. Very fast, lots of multitouch features, etc... and a great demo for your iphone too. Hard to believe you can remote control a server with your phone!

The only thing I have not been able to do yet is transfer files between the WHS and the phone. Perhaps in a newer version of Logmein...

My understanding is that with logmein you have to rely on their servers. I hate that concept. I was looking at winadmin for the iphone I tried RDP lite but felt it was missing something

T-bone, you are correct. I just got comfortable with their security and the fact that all transmissions are SSL encrypted. So while all data moves via their servers, it's encrypted even to them. Take a look at this quick security recap as an introduction:

Here are the 2 I ponied up for:

WinAdmin
and
RDPlite

The only issue is that I cant launch iTunes from either one when I want to fire up the appletv. I dont leave my server on 24/7 as I dont need it all the time as of yet. Winadmin gives me the ability to control alt delete on the WHS desktop which i cant (dont know how to..) do through my laptops RDP session. This is really cool actually. There is also a boot on Lan application availible on the iphone too. This might be intereting combo for me. I wish someone would put together a WHS console app for the iphone with WOL. With the MSS now supporting MAC's I would hope that something more WHS specific comes along. Would be really cool for solely mac owners that want the bennies of the WHS console. Just a Thought

I use an iPhone application called SleepOver that gives me WOL capability either via the LAN or WAN.

Works for everything via LAN...and for targeted machines via WAN - usually my HTPC although I can use Orb for that.

My problem is my current router doesn't seem to pass/allow broadcast to all devices on the subnet so I can only direct Port 9 to one PC without making multiple rules which then get messy and unwieldly.

I also had to manually add a static mapping for the HTPC to the Routing Table using Arp Add via Telnet as when it is asleep it removes it from the dynamic list.

I'm hoping my new router will allow broadcast to subnet so I can target any PC I like without worrying too much about individual rules for each PC.

You're right though T-Bone...a WHS specific console application would be great.

I'll put it right there with a DVDProfiler type app for the iPhone so I don't end up buying the same DVD more than once!

Regards,
