I notice that the server disks for the 490 and the 495 are labeled specifically for each server.

Can anyone say with any certainty if/how they could differ from one another?

I 99% sure they are the same:
EX-490
EX-495 just had an extra harddrive (more capacity from HP) over the 490
X-510 all same hardware and software will work on all 3.

What you may be seeing is V1 vs V3.0 the upgraded disks that HP offered for a limited time.

I believe even with the pre 3.0 upgrade disks, if you setup a system at some point when it is out on the net grabbing updates that it will grab the equivalent upgrade to the 3.0 disks from HP.

But to answer your question, yes they could be different but they will both work and there will be little to no difference once you get all the updates from HP and Microsoft. (99% sure)

I went from the EX-470 to the X-510.
I got the 3.0 disks for the 470 and was not impressed with what little they added and went back to the stock v1 disks.

The EX-470 and EX-475 were the same way, same disks but HP offered a limited time 3.0 upgrade set of disks.

The disks for the EX-480 series may have been a little different but I did not get any of those so can't say for sure.

More then you wanted to know, but hope this helps. Shout out if you have problems setting up a server or other questions, this is the best site on the web (I believe) to get help/info on these servers.
Good Luck
