Did you ever check the SpeedFan configuration? Specifically under the Configuration-->Advanced tab for the CPU temperature offset? (I use an offset of "6" for my LE-1640 to get the SpeedFan reading to match the reading from the HP Hardware Status panel in the Console Settings.) An improper entry there will mess up the reading...

*old topic bump*
I can imagine having to offset Speedfan by a degree or two, but in my case Speedfan says the core is 51°C, while the Windows Home Server Console says its 36°C. (Harddisk temperatures do match though)

Having an offset of 15 degrees seems a lot. Anyone any comment on that?

A suggestion for you guys: I love speedfan for fan control, but frankly the sensor monitoring bit doesn't work great, especially calibration wise. I suggest you try out CPUID Hardware Monitor (free), which should give you an indication of the actual temperatures your sensors are picking up. You can use that info to properly set the offset for Speedfan.

For instance, my EX470 with a BE-2300 shows 8C as the idle temperature of the processor core in Speedfan. Using CPUID hardware monitor, I found the actual core temps (there are two sensors on the BE-2300 although Speedfan only sees one) were around 33C. I set the offset in Speedfan appropriately, now the temperatures are more realistic. The other temperatures seem to be detected accurately by Speedfan without any offsets.

I run a CPUID sanity check on all my systems running Speedfan. Hardware Monitor is great for actual temperatures, but features like logging and fan control require a paid version, which is why I stick with Speedfan for that stuff.
