Hi kramttocs,

From my PC it times out, saying the server is taking too long to respond.

I do get the xml when I type the same thing on the server.

Ok I want to make sure I follow you - so by 'server' you mean the WHS that has hd sentinel installed, right? So you can get the xml from the browser ON the server but not from your other pc, correct? Are you on the same lan? Have you tried using the IP of the server from your other pc? Basically, if the pc you are using the gadget on can't access the xml from the browser then the gadget won't work either so we will need to figure out that first.

Yes, I've tried both the IP address and the hostname. For example from the PC I can access ip_address/connect to get the client connector software or ip_address:9000 to access the Squeezebox software installed on the server and can use ip_address or hostname. So access to the server is fine. Could it be a port conflict, is there another port you'd suggest using instead of 60220/1?

HD Sentinel is running as an application, not a service - is that correct? The config menu implies you lose functionality running it as a service.

Yes, you will want to keep it as an application (or at least I always have).
That port is high up there so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. I am still hoping someone else may chime in since I have no experience with WHS at all. Is it possible it could be a firewall or router issue?

I'd tried it with the PC firewall disabled but hadn't tried it with the server firewall disabled and that solved it, so I've now added HD Sentinel to the server firewall permitted appls and it's working great.

Thanks for the help.

UberDave,
Thanks for the info on HD Sentinel! I have a Sans Digital TR5UT (2 of them actually) and this program is great! I'm curious how your hard drive temperatures are so low in your screenshot!!? I recently posted something on Sans Digital forum about my hard drive temps being way too high! They are mid 40's. I didn't even notice the temps were so high until using HD Sentinel. I actually thought Sentinel was causing the high temps by continuously hitting my hard drives, but that's not the case. Any input on how to get my drive temps down??? Thanks!!

Here's my post on the Sans Digital forum: http://www.sansdigital.com/index.php?op ... =4858#4894

Hey guys,
Not sure if anyone still uses this since 8 got rid of gadgets but just in case, I posted an updated version to the HD Sentinel forum:
