BK_Mess - post a link please.

I bought the 1.5TB WD15EADS from Dell the other day, looked again when you posted $100, that was for the WD10EADS (1TB drive). I have a business discount and the cheapest I could get the WD15EADS for today was the same I paid last week ($123 minus my discount, which was not the price you quoted).

More info needed if you have a deal please. I'd like the WD15EADS at $100, but there is nothing on the Dell site that indicates that price that I can find.

Appreciate the link.

He was right, but they already changed the price. it was a mistake maybe?

I bought one earlier today at the quoted $99.99 ($50 instant savings from $149.99)

Must have been one of those temporary deals to draw traffic in. I learned of it from bensbargains. I jumped on the 1TB a few hours earlier, otherwise I would have been all over the 1.5TB at $100 shipped!

Darn it. Thought I jumped on it fast, but not fast enough.

For anyone interested in getting hard drives intact - my rankings from best to worst:
1) Dell - boxes oem hard drives better than anyone. Antistatic bag, two foam cushions around the drive, then a form fitting box, then another box around that one. Never had a drive go bad that I bought from Dell. You have to watch for deals though.
2) Buy.com - they use the form fit cardboard around the antistatic bag, then starch corn around that box. Watch for deals.
3) Newegg.com - crap - NewEgg sends the drive in the antistatic bag and a small amount of bubble wrap, then in a box where the drives bounce around. Lowest prices, but they cut corners on shipping costs.

I just bought a slim DVD drive from NewEgg and they wrapped the OEM DVD drive in bubble wrap and sent that in a box... haven't tested it yet, but crossing fingers it works.

Agreed. I have purchased drives from Amazon, Dell and NewEgg. Amazon and Dell did a great job with the packing. I just unpacked a drive from NewEgg about an hour ago....thin layer of bubblewrap and some loose peanuts (drive settles to the bottom of the box during transit). Fortunately in my case the drive only needed to travel a few hundred miles. Yesterday I received my EX485 from NewEgg...just the retail box with the top not even sealed shut! I guess "free shipping" only goes so far with NewEgg. They get plenty of bad press for this, but not enough to change anything.

I know these haven't been out long, anyone using this in a MSS EX470? Any problems I should worry about?

I've had the Seagate 1.5TB LP drive running in my MSS for two weeks now without any problems. I haven't read about any of the serious problems that seagate drives ran in to earlier this year

Just saw this on Ben's. Not a hard drive deal, but a good price on the EX485...

Newegg has the HP MediaSmart Server EX485 750GB for $450 - $50 off with coupon code HP975 [Exp 9/9] = $400 with free shipping. Features an Intel Celeron 2.0 GHz processor, 2GB DDR2 RAM, 4 drive bays, 4x USB ports, and one eSATA port. Includes one 750GB 7200rpm SATA hard drive.

I just got a WD 1.5TB OEM from Tiger Direct and it was packaged in a form fitting plastic affair and then packed in the box with lotsa packing material. Very stable .

I put 4 of them in the EX485 and have no problem so far; although, I only have them for 2 weeks. I bought them from Fry's Electronics for $175 each. They are the retail kit version and have 5 years warranty compared to the lesser 3 years warranty OEM version.

Right now, Frys has the Seagate 1.5TB hard drive retail kit for $105. Free in store pickup if you live near one of them.
