I never get into the Fan-Boy Seagate vs. WD stuff (they are both excellent), but the Samsung and Hitachis are not for me, or the MSS.

This opinion is worth 2 cents.

Newegg has the Hitachi Deskstar 750gb for $89.00 after rebate, delivered. The really neat part is that the rebate is good for up to FIVE units per person.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145166&cm_sp=DailyDeal-_-22-145-166-_-Product

BTW, i posted earlier here about problems with Samsung and hitachi drives in the MSS. Subsequently, I learned that those problems are unique to the Samsungs in the MSS, NOT the Hitachis, or I wouldn't have posted this deal.

A "deal" really isn't a "deal" if its got a "REBATE" attached, period.

Everyone says that, but with my current desktop, I got over $80 in rebates. I had ZERO issues filing, since Newegg linked the forms with the item, I filled them out, sent them in, and got my checks. No problems. And Newegg nicely proved a way to track status of them.

Try telling that to the Slickdeals.net folks.

I have bought things with rebates many times and never had an issue from all types of stores.

I tend to try to avoid them Greg, they are a hassle. But I've had good luck with them on Newegg, and this one was kinda special because of the number allowed.

My experience of "REBATE HELL" comes from Compusa and Circuit City.

Office DEPOT and Staples aren't much better.

You ain't kidding...Compusa wins worst in my experience. wonder if they will be any better now that they are owned by TigerDirect. I avoid the place unless I need something I need right now that nobody else carries.

I have honestly never had a problem with a Newegg rebate. And if someone wants to fill up an MSS with those Hitachi 750's, the sale plus the rebate add up to some serious change! :D

Thinking about picking up a 1TB WD Black Edition drive this weekend for my game box. $200 @ BestBuy

32mb Cache is nice. It mentions "dual processors"? Maybe Greg can shed some light there.

I've been running Samsung Spinpoint drives in my MSS for months with no problems. Not only are they quiet but they run very cool for 7200 rpm drives.

If you look at reviews for the various Spinpoint drives on the web, and at Newegg in particular, you'll find they're excellent drives.

Check your facts before you tell people to ignore a quality product.

Regarding fact checking, please see this thread:
http://www.mediasmartserver.net/forums/ ... +spinpoint

The 1TB (and I believe also 750GB) drives have acknowledged issues with the MSS. What size drives are you using? Have you tried rebooting your MSS? It is possible Samsung resolved the issue with their drives and have a newer version available that does not suffer the same problem...
