I know Backup Exec 2010 (and other versions) doesn't work with WHS but will it work with Vail? I'd really like to use Backup Exec 2010 since I used it so much in the past and for other networks. What I really like is the unattended, automated backup and rotation of media catalogs so it can automatically overwrite old backups when it needs more room.

Any suggestions to an alternative program for the current WHS and/or Vail?

I have 2 external USB drives that I use as off-site storage and I swap them every month. I do a monthly full server backup. All I do is just check for any errors and do a rendom validation of some data to make sure everything is OK. I'm doing this on a client PC now and want to move this operation to the server so I don't have to keep my client PC on all the time.... or around the time the backup is going.

What are you wanting to backup with BackupExec? Restoring a backed up OS drive has been an issue on WHS V1; although there are some workarounds now but you could use BackupExec to backup your shared folders.

I am wanting to backup 1) shared folders, 2) WHS OS drive. I have no need to restore the client PC's OS. Main priority is the shared folders (photos, home movies, files, etc...). If I have to re-install and re-configure the WHS OS, then that's not near as big of a problem as listening to my wife for the next x years about the photos and home movies that are gone. :)
