ok- ready to rumble \:D/
But, I had hoped to leave WHS1 on my current SERVER- and to install VAIL on another machine. Then I could experiment with VAIL while keeping the intregrity of my backups on the WHS1 SERVER. But a quick read of the review seems to indicate that only one server at a time can be used with the Connector software. Is there a work-around?

This is no different than the current version of WHS.

The second server can be accessed through an RDP session; which you can also do with the first.

Just make sure the server names are different.

While its true about the console connector software on each client being assiciated with one server you can still access and connect to the other servers within your network. I know I do it all the time and I have 3 servers running in my house. All my clients have the connector software installed and associated with the server I want to back them up.

If you want to use the Console on a particular server then just RDP to the server and your there. All my servers show up on my network so I can easily access the files on each server.

I have them both running at the same time, only issue is that Remote Access could only be set to 1 server. I can do a PC backup to either server (EX490 WHS V1 HP V3) and ( EX470 WHS Vail beta).

WHS V1 install the connector to C:\Program Files\Windows Home Server\ while WHS V2 installs the connector to c:\Program Files\Windows Server\. Also by default each server has a different server name.

Interesting, I was prompted to uninstall v1 connector when v2 installed, I suspect you re-installed v1 connector afterwards?

My Vail installation never promted me to uninstalled the v1 connector. I have to uninstalled it because of conflicts ( specially server name even though they had different names) and reinstalled and it all worked fine.

That's right, it did ask me to uninstall the old one. But like you said, I reinstalled it again along with the HP software and I can open either the Console or Dashboard.

Good to know, thanks! I'm using VM clients for Vail testing so didn't bother with backing up to both my production and Vail server.

Are both connections active in parallel?
Or do you have to sign out of one server in order to start the other?
Cheers,
Lars

@ Diehard ~ Hey thanks for the info! I have both installed on my desktop now. Guess my desktop will get backed up 2x's a night now. I think I better put another drive in the server running Vail....
