I have 3 clients. XP Pro, server 2003, and Win7 Ultimate. Today I got an error that the XP box media colector software is out of date. To uninstal/reinstal the client software.

Odd that only one client has this error msg?

Hi Grey, this is due to the new 3.0 Patch 1 which just came out yesterday. It is indeed odd that only one alerted, what I've seen is that the notification is issued when the client is turned on. My wife's Mac was asleep and didn't alert until it woke up last night.

What error are you observing? Is only one client alerting that it needs an update? Have you updated your clients with the new MSS client software?

I get the following:

"HP Media Collector - Please update the client software

The version of software on "P180" is not compatible with the server. Please uninstall the client software and re-install it from the server."

I've unistalled and reinstalled by going to the IP address i.e. http://192.168.1.30:55000 but I still get the error.

That is the WHS connector software, not the HP MSS software. You need to uninstall it from your client PC, and re-install from the Software share.

The HP client software resides in \\servername\Software\Home Server Connector Software\OEM.

It's possible that those files were not correctly updated by the 3.0 software update, perhaps due to being out of date with the upgrade from your EX470. What version of the HP software do you show on your client? In Add/Remove programs mine shows as "HP DataVault 3.0 Update 1".

Mine has "HP Data Vault (x64)" with a version of 3.06.31973.

You need to uninstall that and run it from the Software share again, it should be Update 1 after that (3.0.14.xxxxx).

Then I guess you either don't have Update 1 installed on your server, or else the client packages in the Software share weren't upgraded when Update 1 installed. You can find them on your server here:
C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP MediaSmart Server\Client\

That didn't work either.

I ended up renaming the files, downloading the update via an ftp link provided in another thread, running the update again and selecting repair, and then it updated the HP software to the correct versions.

Thanks for your help.
